Tim McGraw warned the room before he started. “I’m going to cry because I cry all the time. There’s a lot of estrogen in my house,” he said from the stage of the CMA Theater in Nashville on Sunday, October 18, and two of the people he meant were sitting a few feet away in long gowns. Audrey McGraw, 24, and her sister Maggie, 28, came to watch their father be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, and they brought their mother with them: Faith Hill, on her first red carpet in almost two years.
Audrey is the youngest of the three McGraw daughters and the one who has spent the past eighteen months building a singing career of her own. On Sunday she wore a blue satin gown with ruching through the bodice (InStyle calls the shade blue, E! says blush blue), Maggie wore embroidered black velvet, and their father wore a burgundy suit, a black bow tie and a black cowboy hat, which on him counts as formalwear.
The carpet: a family of five, minus one
The eldest sister, Gracie, 29, does not appear in any of the carpet photos, and her father named her from the stage all the same. The three girls sang on his 2007 single “Last Dollar (Fly Away)” as children, so a longtime fan would spot the missing voice before anyone else did. No outlet has reported why she skipped the night.
Faith Hill was the bigger story for the photographers. HELLO! dates her previous red carpet to November 2024, the New York premiere of the documentary Beatles ’64, and she has released no music since 2017. On Sunday she wore a long black dress that sparkled under the lights, with bell sleeves and a keyhole at the neckline, hair down, black-and-white pointed heels, and she sat in the front row next to Tim’s mother, Betty Trimble.
What he said to the women in the front row
Randy Owen of Alabama placed the medallion around McGraw’s neck, after Parker McCollum sang “Don’t Take the Girl,” Lainey Wilson sang “Just to See You Smile” and Lady A, with Charles Kelley on lead, did “Live Like You Were Dying.” Then came the speech, which the museum’s own release and People both quote at length.

To his mother: “You have been my rock through it all. You nurtured, you provided, you endured.” To Hill, a line he first tried in March, when the class was announced, and brought back for the big night: “The only thing that can beat this night is when you’re standing here and I’m sitting there.” And to the daughters, by name, Gracie, Maggie and Audrey: “my three girls, my heart, you’re the best thing we’ve ever made. Nothing in our careers even comes close.”
@thetimmcgraw There are not enough words in my vocabulary to express the emotions during the HOF ceremony last night. The first word that comes to mind is gratitude. I am so grateful for country music and what it has given me in my life. Everything good in my life has co…
Country singers thank their families at every podium, and most of it evaporates by the parking lot. This one stuck because of the math in it. Hill has five Grammys and McGraw has three, and he ranked all of that below three people, one of whom was not there to hear it.
Audrey’s year, for context
The last time Audrey spoke publicly about the induction, she was on a stage herself. Hours after the Hall of Fame named the Class of 2026 on March 20, she played Red Rock Casino in Las Vegas and told the crowd, as iHeart’s Star Country reported: “I come from a Mississippi woman and a Louisiana man, who just got inducted into the Country Hall of Fame.” Then: “I’m so, so proud of my dad. Both of my parents. I love them so much.” She went on to cover Heart’s “Barracuda,” and said her father “had me come out and sing this next one at a lot of his sets.”

Her first single, a cover of Neil Diamond’s “I Am… I Said,” came out in May 2025. That summer she opened for Brandi Carlile across Europe on the Lost Time Tour, which wrapped on July 14, 2025, in Gardone Riviera, Italy; her father posted afterward that he was “so proud of our baby girl for wrapping up her first international tour.” In April 2026 she announced a run of solo dates, starting at Nashville’s Bluebird Cafe on April 23 and ending at the Green Note in London on May 26, with two New York nights in between. A Bluebird show is where a Nashville songwriter proves she can hold a quiet room with no band to hide behind, and it is a long way from her father’s stadium stages.
On Sunday night she was in the audience, and the headlines filed her as one of the lookalike daughters. Judging by a repertoire that runs from Neil Diamond to Heart, she has a clearer idea of her own lane than the carpet captions give her credit for.
My take
The night ended with Patty Loveless leading “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” with a line changed for Dolly Parton and Don Schlitz, both lost this past year. The sentence from the speech worth keeping is the one he used about hearing his own songs sung back by McCollum, Wilson and Kelley: “It’s like finding a letter you wrote a long time ago and learning it got to where it was going.” Audrey has been mailing letters of her own for a year and a half now, to rooms of a few hundred people. Sunday showed her where that road ends if you keep walking it, and she watched the whole three hours from the second-best seat in the house.
